To make columns in Word, click on the tab named "Page Layout" along the top of your screen. Click on the icon labeled "Columns," near the left side of the screen. You can choose 1-3 columns, or click on "More Columns" to specify how many you would like and their width.
To go back to the standard layout, simply click on "Columns" again and select 1 column.
